Settling In

Well its been about a month since we’ve been in Texas.  We have encountered 111 degree heat, the hottest week in a long time according to natives.  Did I mention that our air conditioning was out that week in our house?  A new test of patience to be sure.  For those of you who don’t know we were blessed with a great house on 1.4 acres which we were told would be near impossible to find, seeing as how most homes in Denton are big but have postage stamp sized yards.  The house and yard however had been neglected for about 16 years from the previous owners.  With the help of a good contractor and his crew we have turned the house around, all that is left are the counter tops which we are eagerly awaiting in the next few weeks.

The kids have adapted well making all sorts of friends.  They enjoy their new neighborhood where they can ride their scooters without much worry of traffic and just the other day we discovered a trail to some land behind our neighborhood with woods and fields which are the residence of deer, turkey, wild hogs, raccoons, armadillos, possums, hawks, snakes, scorpions, bobcats, coyotes, and one unconfirmed sighting of a cougar all of which we have seen or seen evidence of.

Angie has started the long process, our formula being 18 months, of making friends and feeling like this place is our home.  We miss our friends of eleven years in Statesboro dearly but the folks in Denton have been showering us with love and attention and I’m sure we will be rooted here in no time.

I have an old friend from college, the best man at our wedding to be exact who lives in Denton, and he has invited me to play basketball with a group of men every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at lunch time.  It’s the “old men’s game” and most of these guys are ten years or more my senior but I gotta tell you I am plum wore out by 1:00 and I’m sure they are wondering when I’m going to catch up.  Truth be told I hope its soon, I don’t think I can handle planting a church, moving, settling in, etc and getting my butt whooped by these old guys in a sport I thought I was proficient at on a weekly basis.

Since we have been here I have met numerous folks who are very interested in the new church and our hopes are that we will start worship services within the next 9 to 12 months.  We need your prayers for us though now more than ever as we have already experienced attacks from satan, our flesh, and those who are opposed to the gospel, not to mention the everyday stuff of life which can seem to suck the life out of you like losing your ac in 111 degree heat.

Please call us and write us and plan to visit

Grace and Peace,
